To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.

I will make this clear. Martin Richling is a heretic and a crazy person. I have seen his false teachings doing harm to the body in real ways. As an informed believer I want to do my small part to respond to his crazy claims and hopefully help to open the eyes of some of the deceived sheep.

This is a response to this video from early May of 2013.

Now let’s just think about this for real for a minute. Was the Bible written in English? NO! It was written in Hebrew/Greek. And may I just take a moment to mention that God did not limit his scripture to being written in just Hebrew rather he changed to the common tongue of the times… The Bible itself helps us refutes KJV Onlyism in it’s transmission. So what does the Hebrew say at Psalm 8:5? Take a look at the lexicon.

The term “elohim” means “god” there is no debate over this, in fact the “im” ending as in “sarphim” or “rabbim” means plural so literally it means “the gods.” Here’s what’s important to keep in mind. Elohim is a divinity term but it is more flexible than we have thought. Elohim is a “place of residency term” as stated by the real Bible teacher Michael S. Heiser an expert in biblical languages and lead translator for Logos bible Software. Elohim actually means “spiritual being” and just refers to anything that exists in the spirit realm there are times in the OT when angels, demons, God, and spirits of dead human beings are called “elohim”. See Michael S. Heiser “What is an Elohim?” lecture for fuller discussion. So it is true that YHWH is an elohim not all elohim are YHWH!

Now what about the Hebrews passage why does it say angels and is the ASB inconsistent with itself here? Well no. What we have to learn about the New Testament is that the authors who were inspired to write it do not quote from the Greek old testament, they quote from the Greek LXX translation of the OT. (May I add how much people freaked out about the new translation into greek of the Hebrew Bible? The King James Only movement is nothing new and will surly die out just like the Hebrew onlyists died out. Indeed int he first century people were arguing against Jerome’s Vulgate translation of Hebrew/Greek into latin that the LXX was the only true inspired translation of the Bible. People have been blind and stupid for as long as there has been such a thing as people).

Any ways, the LXX reads thusly at Psalm 8:5 and how does it look compared to the Greek of the NT?

How about that the Septuigent (LXX means the same thing) uses the term “angels” in place of elohim meaning the earliest christians interpreted this passage as referring to angels and not God

Keep in mind that the ASB is a rigid wooden interpretation of the words of the original language. It will insert the most literal english parallel in place of the real words of the actual languages. (for more information kinds of translation see Daniel Wallace History of the Bible in English) This tranlation technique has it’s issues as this fleshes out because it doesn’t allow for words to be more playable and have different meanings but it far from means that the ASB is a heretical book translated by Satan.

Point is Martin Richling is a crazy man who does not know the original language or what he is talking about. PLEASE PLEASE Seek out his claims for yourself….

If this short rebuttal was helpful to you please let us know and we will do more exposing of some of the false ideas this movement is holding up as gospel truth.

Be safe.

PX

On Monday, a war was won before it even got started.

In previous years, even die-hard fans of one console would admit (if they were honest) that the other consoles at least had something going for them. This time, not so much. Microsoft has dropped the ball so badly that Sony effectively won the “console wars” just by showing up. Responses to the Xbox One are overwhelmingly negative; so much so that the question is no longer whether it will fail, but how hard it will fail.

This is not a good thing. Both Microsoft and Sony are ultimately in the game to make money, and if Sony thinks it can get away with something that some consumers won’t like to make a little bit more, they now have no reason not to. Any response now can be met with “What are you going to do, buy an Xbox? Ha!” Sony needs competition breathing down its neck to keep their motivation to please customers.

Ideas need this as well. The various things we believe need foils, and we should be exposed to them often. It keeps us sharp. It keeps us thinking about why we believe the things we do. Even if we end up never changing our minds, we’re still better off if we seek out intellectual competition instead of letting ourselves become complacent.

This is an old story but it’s worth reposting:

A 12-year-old girl who was abducted and beaten by men trying to force her into a marriage was found being guarded by three lions who apparently had chased off her captors [...]

She had been guarded by the lions for about half a day, he said.

“They stood guard until we found her and then they just left her like a gift and went back into the forest,” Wondimu said.

Aslan really exists! You’d think this would be something out of the Narnia books but it’s real. It reminds me of how God tamed the lions in Daniel’s den (Daniel 6:21-22). Maybe this was a miracle of sorts? It sure is hard to believe and it’s not something you see everyday.

I’m the new guy. For my first post as a co-blogger on Walking Christian, I’d like to talk briefly about the little piece of silicon in the picture.

This is part of Intel’s new product line, called “Haswell”. Standard Intel selling points apply here – lower power consumption, increased clock speed, more cores[1] – but the really interesting thing is the general development path Intel uses.

Haswell is a “tock”, the second half of Intel’s “tick-tock” method; the tick introduces a new, smaller fabrication process, while the tock gives us a new microarchitecture. This means that Haswell is the first set of chips designed specifically for the 22nm fabrication process.

A good analogy for Intel’s tick-tock is an ever-dwindling spiral. Build smaller transistors, throw a new microarchitecture on a chip, rinse and repeat. Instead of trying to take giant leaps, they take baby steps. And it works very well.

Debate over philosophical issues is like that. For example, let’s say that you believe in libertarian free will, and you’re in discussion with a hard determinist. Most of us have seen how debates over philosophical issues tend to go; in the end, no one is convinced to change their mind. Instead, look to Intel – throw out a new, unrelated idea (a new fabrication process), then find some common ground (new microarchitecture). Look at the big picture. Play the long game. Develop a winning strategy.

Longtime readers of Walking Christian may be aware that I’m an atheist. Yep, it’s true. “What is an atheist doing on a Christian blog?”, you ask? This is my winning strategy. It might sound like I’m sneaking in the backdoor to deconvert everyone, but that’s not what I mean by “winning”. In the context of Game Theory, the winning strategy ends up being the one that offers the most overall benefit for everyone involved – not just for a single player. The rules employed in such a strategy involve a large amount of cooperation, even in the face of competition. And that’s my goal here, despite my atheism.

This is absolutely hilarious but in a way so true. Incase you don’t know, libertarianism is the political stance that greatly reduces the role of the state and greatly increases the role of the individual ‘s liberty. The government is limited to just the protection of individuals from coercion or violence. One of the most damning difficulties with this belief (despite some of its appeal) is the idea that abortion is an issue that the government should get out of. But then they claim to protect the rights of every individual, including their life, which is utterly contradicted by their stance on abortion. You cannot be neutral on this issue.

They then oppose “ALL government laws at ANY level” (source) that requires registration or restrictions on the ownership or manufacturing of guns. That’s just ridiculous because it suggests that murderers have a right to own a gun as well. Not all regulations are bad; it’s good for us conservatives to remember that. Sometimes they are very important in ensuring that criminals (or corporations) do not harm us. It’s not just about the individual, it is also about the family and the society that it is comprised in.
