The Story of Augustine

Every Christian denomination (whether protestant, catholic or orthodox) has a high respect for Augustine. He’s a man of conviction, brilliance, and influence that to this day, remains unprecedented. There are different interpretations as to what he says, but perhaps a part of unifying the church requires an appeal to his authority. This movie trailer has this cinematic feel to it that you don’t expect from christian movies. Toward the beginning though, he sounded like an atheist. Not sure how accurate that is, however. I do think it is interesting how he appeals to “matter as evil” in this movie because at the time, that had been a prevalent view in some circles. Christianity, on the other hand, was quite antithetical to this position. If matter was intrinsically evil, then Jesus could not have become incarnate. As Paul said, the crucifixion of Christ is “a stumbling block to the Jews and foolishness to the Gentiles” (1 Corinthians 1:23). I’m hoping this movie includes some epic philosophical discussions! Who else is looking forward to this?
