According to a recent article, Peter Jackson confirmed the existence of a third part to the Hobbit on Facebook! If you’re as huge of a fan as the LOTR series as I am, then you’ll LOVE this news. The artistic splendor and majesty of this series is quite something to be behold, I do not know of any other series/movie that truly brings out a fantasy as this one has. I’m confident that it will continue to do so because Peter Jackson is going to be directly involved in the production of this trilogy. While some argue that the LOTR trilogy does not compare to the books, I do not think that’s a fair comparison. Obviously, three books cannot fit into a film, it would have to be transformed into a TV series. So I don’t know about you, but I look forward to watching this!

5 Responses to The Hobbit Comes in Three Parts!

Whaaaaaaaaaaa?
Ok so I found this: According to Jackson, the third film would make extensive use of the appendices that Tolkien wrote, to expand the story of Middle-Earth, and published in the back of The Return of the King.
Eh, I don’t think this is such a good idea. It would be better if he just did a two-part Hobbit movie, then a two-part Quenta Silmarillion.

I also hoped that Silmarillion would be a part of The Hobbit as well, but it doesn’t seem like a Peter Jackson would do something that would add no value to the series. He could make a mistake, though. Who knows, maybe the Silmarillion will be in there in certain parts? The problem with that book is that it contains quite a number of mini stories, so he’d have to find a way to put them in a movie format.

The great thing about it is that there’s a lot of logical stopping points, if he decides to make more or less movies. Here’s how I see it going down:
Movie 1 – 10 minute intro (narrated of course) covering the music of the Ainur and briefly showing us the Valar. Morgan Freeman as Illuvatar, cause he’s just that awesome. Open with Melkor destroying the two trees. Focus mostly on Feanor throughout the movie. End with the battle of unnumbered tears.
Movie 2 – Introduce Beren and Luthien. Intertwine their story with Turin’s story (but keep this very brief), and the host of the Valar. End with the war of wrath (stick a few choice characters escaping throughout the background of the battle: sauron, a balrog, and a young dragon), and in the epilogue briefly mention the creation of the rings.
Movie 3 (maybe) – Numenor. ‘Nuff said.
Movie 4 (probably not, but a guy can dream, can’t he?) – Farmer Giles of Ham, Leaf by Niggle, and Tom Bombadil.

Forgot to respond to this, but that’s not a bad timeline at all :O Hopefully he changes his mind because that would REALLY get me going. Looks as if we both have a strong dream for more material XD Perhaps you should email Peter Jackson! Do you plan to see the first movie in the theaters?
Robert August 2, 2012
Of course I’ll be seeing it in theatres!
Unfortunately for us though, most people won’t be interested in Silmarillion material, so it won’t make money, so it will never be made. Now what I’d really like to see is a Wheel of Time miniseries, Game of Thrones style.
